The Philippine Association of Secretaries & Administrative Professionals, Inc. (PAS) celebrated its 60th year with its annual National Convention on April 25-26, 2018 at the I’M Hotel in Makati City. Over 100 professionals in various administrative roles – office managers, executive assistants, secretaries, administrative assistants, and many others attended this two-day event, which featured several Filipino motivational speakers who shared their expertise on various topics.
On the afternoon of day 1, Filipino motivational speaker Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales was invited to speak about “The Power of Communication.” His presentation centered on the voice and its role in effective communication. As the VoiceMaster of the Philippines, Pocholo shared his expertise on how one’s voice can be cultivated to match his or her desired image. Thus his personal adage, “our voice is not just a gift, it’s a choice.”
Before getting into the heart of his presentation, Pocholo energized and entertained the crowd with a quick icebreaker, and a series of witty stories and remarks. He also gave the audience a glimpse of his work as a voice artist – his humble beginnings, his entrepreneurial journey, and how he has established his brand as the VOICEMASTER. Pocholo even gave interesting facts about the voice, such as the difference between how a person hears himself and how others hear him.
Pocholo started his talk on voice empowerment with what he calls the “7 deadly sins” of communication – among which are gossip, negativity and dogmatism. He then gave the audience a toolkit, which comprise of the vocal elements needed to develop a powerful voice. He also gave the audience some warmup exercises for the voice.
Pocholo ended his talk with a powerful statement that shifts how one should look at his voice: “Our voice is God’s gift to us, how we use our voice is our gift back to Him.”
PAS is a non-profit and non-stock organization of secretaries and administrative professionals in business corporations and other institutions. It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 17, 1958. PAS is the founding member of the Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals in Asia-Pacific (ASA), which is composed of secretarial/ administrative associations in Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines.
