Over 200 students flocked the AVR of Notre Dame of Dadiangas University for the first ever Voice Acting Workshop conducted in General Santos City. The whole-day workshop was held on March 10 and was taught by no less than Filipino motivational speaker Pocholo “The VoiceMaster” Gonzales.
The VoiceMaster began the workshop with an energizer, which made the participants all the more excited for the rest of the workshop. The morning session of the workshop had a more inspirational touch, as Pocholo told the story of his journey in the world of voice acting. He shared his humble beginnings and the challenges he experienced when he was starting out. He revealed ho the challenges and frustrations he encountered propelled him to establish his company and voice acting school. Of course, Pocholo didn’t pass up the chance to showcase his voice acting talent and did several voice impressions of cartoon characters, celebrities and famous personalities.
Pocholo slightly diverted the topic towards his experience as a youth advocate, and also shared how he has founded Voice of the Youth Network to give voice to the Filipino youth on issues that affect them. He also shared how he greatly looks up to national hero Dr. Jose Rizal as the epitome of greatness and excellence, and challenged the participants to become agents of positive change in their respective schools and communities.
In the latter part of the workshop, Pocholo taught the basics of voice production and character voices. He shared what he calls “The VoiceMaster’s Formula” for creating character voices and showed the participants how to use the formula to make the voices they usually hear in anime and even video games. The workshop was highly interactive as Pocholo called volunteers on stage to show their talent in voice acting, to whom he gave free copies of his award-winning book, “Gusto Kong Maging Voice Talent.”
One of Pocholo’s partners from Creativoices Mindanao, DJ Digong Guantes of Halo-Halo FM in Davao, also graced the workshop with his presence as he gave a few words of inspiration and tips to aspiring voice artists.
The workshop concluded with a book-signing session and lots of selfies with the one and only VoiceMaster.
